I’ve spent twenty-five years building software. My role in the process has ranged from grunt coder to the head of development for one of the worlds largest software companies. In the business of making software, as in all pursuits, when it’s all said and done, so much more is said than done. I have long been of the opinion that most of what is said about developing software isn’t worth a hill of beans. However, there are a few things worth saying … a few fundamental truths that ought to guide one who aspires to be counted among the elite producers of this strange stuff.
